Atrovent HFA is a solution aerosol that is dispensed without the need for shaking. However, similar to other metered-dose inhalers, it requires coordination between actuating the canister and inhaling the medication.
To prepare for use, patients should 'prime' Atrovent HFA by releasing 2 test sprays into the air, away from the face, before the first use. If the inhaler hasn't been used in over 3 days, it should be primed again with 2 test sprays, avoiding contact with the eyes.
