Description
Komboglyze is a prescription medication designed to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is used in conjunction with diet and exercise to enhance glycemic control. The medication consists of two active ingredients, saxagliptin and metformin hydrochloride.
Saxagliptin belongs to a class of drugs known as dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors, which work by increasing the levels of incretin hormones, improving the release of insulin when needed, and decreasing the amount of sugar produced by the liver. Metformin hydrochloride is a biguanide which reduces glucose production in the liver, decreases glucose absorption in the intestines, and enhances insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization.
