Description
The active agent in clopidogrel, clopidogrel bisulfate, works by selectively and irreversibly binding to P2Y12 class of ADP receptors found on platelets. This action inhibits the ADP-mediated activation of the GPIIb/IIIa complex, thereby reducing platelet aggregation. Clopidogrel is especially valuable in patients undergoing angioplasty or stent placement procedures, as it prevents the stent from occluding by inhibiting the clotting. It ensures smoother blood flow and reduces the patient’s risk of a serious cardiovascular event.
