Usage |
Take Diovan HCT (Valsartan / Hydrochlorothiazide) orally, with or without food, following your doctor's instructions, typically once daily. If it causes increased urination, it's advisable to take it at least 4 hours before bedtime to avoid disruptions during the night. If you are also prescribed specific cholesterol-lowering medications like bile acid-binding resins (e.g., cholestyramine or colestipol), take Diovan HCT either at least 4 hours before or 4 to 6 hours after these cholesterol drugs. Your dosage will depend on your medical condition and how you respond to the treatment. Consistently use this medication to maximize its benefits. To ensure you remember, take the medication at the same time every day. Keep taking it as prescribed, even if you are feeling well. High blood pressure frequently doesn't manifest noticeable symptoms. If you don't experience improvement or if your condition worsens (e.g., blood pressure readings remain high or increase), inform your doctor.

Side Effects |
Seek immediate medical assistance if you exhibit signs of an allergic reaction, such as hives, breathing difficulties, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat. Although uncommon, Diovan HCT may, in rare instances, trigger a condition that leads to the breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue, potentially resulting in kidney failure. Contact your doctor promptly if you experience unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, especially if accompanied by fever, unusual fatigue, or dark-colored urine.
Get in touch with your doctor promptly if you experience any of the following:
• Experiencing dizziness or a sensation of almost fainting
• Eye discomfort or vision issues
• An unusual skin rash
• Minimal or no urination
• Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)
• Easy bruising or unusual bleeding
• A seizure
• Kidney problems, including reduced or absent urination, painful or challenging urination, foot or ankle swelling, fatigue, or shortness of breath
• Signs of an electrolyte imbalance, such as dry mouth, increased thirst, confusion, restlessness, vomiting, muscle discomfort or weakness, drowsiness, lack of energy, rapid heartbeats, or reduced urination.
Common side effects may encompass:
• Cold symptoms like a congested or runny nose, sneezing, or a sore throat
• Dizziness
• Headache

Precaution |
Do not use Diovan HCT (Valsartan / Hydrochlorothiazide) if you have an allergy to valsartan, hydrochlorothiazide, or sulfa drugs, or if you experience decreased urination or an inability to urinate. If you have diabetes, avoid using Diovan HCT with any medication containing aliskiren, especially if you have kidney disease. Inform your doctor if you have a history of the following conditions: electrolyte imbalance, liver disease, kidney disease, gallstones, lupus, congestive heart failure, gout, high uric acid levels, asthma, allergies, high cholesterol or triglyceride levels, penicillin allergy, glaucoma, or if you are on a low-salt diet. Refrain from using Diovan HCT if you are pregnant, and contact your doctor immediately if you become pregnant while taking it, as valsartan can harm the unborn baby during the second or third trimester. Additionally, do not breastfeed while using this medication, and it is not intended for individuals under 18 years old.
