Rivastigmine, the active ingredient in Exelon Patch, specifically inhibits acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase, key enzymes involved in the breakdown of acetylcholine. By doing so, it enhances cholinergic function, which is crucial in conditions where dementia presents.

Exelon Patch is a prescription medication used to treat mild to severe dementia related to Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s Disease. Classified as a cholinesterase inhibitor, it works by preventing the breakdown of acetylcholine—a neurotransmitter essential for memory and learning. The patch offers a novel approach to medication delivery, providing a controlled release of rivastigmine through the skin and maintaining stable blood levels over 24 hours.

● Any active dermatological conditions that might interfere with the use of a transdermal patch

Before initiating treatment, patients should disclose to their healthcare provider if they are:

● Pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding — the safety profile of rivastigmine for unborn children and nursing infants is important to consider.
● Taking any other forms of medication, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements, to avoid potential drug interactions.
