Indications:
● Managing post-operative inflammation and pain after eye surgeries.
● Treating various inflammatory eye conditions such as allergic conjunctivitis, uveitis, and keratitis.
● Certain types of non-infectious conjunctivitis that are responsive to corticosteroids.
Patients should:
● Follow the prescription instructions provided by the healthcare provider.
● Apply the ointment to the affected eye in the prescribed amount, typically before bedtime because the ointment can cause blurred vision.
● To prevent contamination, do not touch the tip of the ointment tube to any surface, including your eyes and hands.
● Anticipate an improvement in symptoms within a few days of use, but continue the treatment as prescribed even if symptoms subside.
Administration:
To apply Lotemax Ophthalmic Ointment, follow these steps:
● Wash hands thoroughly before use.
● Tilt your head back, look up, and pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pouch.
● Squeeze a thin strip of ointment into the pouch.
● Close your eye for 1 to 2 minutes and roll the eyeball in various directions to distribute the ointment.
● Wipe away any excess ointment around the eye with a clean tissue.
Precautions:
● Patients with a history of glaucoma should use Lotemax with caution due to the potential for increased intraocular pressure.
● Regular monitoring of the eye is recommended during treatment.
● Ophthalmic ointment is not indicated for use in certain types of eye infections without an appropriate anti-infective agent.
Drug Interactions:
● Be cautious of interactions with other ophthalmic drugs. If using more than one topical eye medication, use Lotemax Ophthalmic Ointment last and wait at least 10 minutes after applying other eye drops before ointment administration.
