Indications:
●Reduction of inflammation and pain after cataract surgery.
●Treatment and management of postoperative ocular inflammation and other conditions where an NSAID might be prescribed to manage symptoms.
Administration Guidelines
Eye Drops:
●Prolensa should be administered according to a physician’s prescription, typically once daily, beginning one day before cataract surgery, continuing on the day of surgery, and maintaining through the initial phase of postoperative recovery.
●To avoid contamination, the dropper tip should not be touched to any surface, including the eye itself.
●If using other topical eye medications, there should be at least a 5-minute interval between applying each medication.
Dosage Forms:
●Ophthalmic solution (eye drops)
Safety Preclusions
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:
●Usage in pregnant or nursing mothers should only be undertaken if the potential benefits justify the possible risks to the fetus or infant. Data on extensive usage in this demographic is limited.
Long-term Use:
●While typically not used long-term, extended use of NSAIDs may increase the risk of keratitis. Patients should be monitored for changes in vision or signs of ocular irritation.
Drug Interactions:
Bromfenac should be used with caution alongside other NSAIDs or steroids to avoid cumulative effects that could increase the risk of side effects.
