Indications:
● Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma: Travoprost is indicated for reducing elevated intraocular pressure in patients diagnosed with open-angle glaucoma, the most common form of the disease.
● Ocular Hypertension: It is also used for managing high pressure inside the eye that can lead to glaucoma if not treated.
Administration Guidelines
Dosage and Application:
● The recommended dosage is one drop in the affected eye(s) once daily in the evening.
Method of Administration:
● Direct Topical Application: Apply directly into the eye. To avoid contamination, do not let the dropper tip touch any surface, including the eye surface.
Adjustment and Titration:
● Dosing adjustments are usually not required. However, it’s critical not to exceed the recommended one drop per day to prevent reducing the drug's effectiveness.
Safety Precautions
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:
● Travoprost should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. For breastfeeding mothers, caution is advised since it’s unknown if this medication passes into breast milk.
Drug Interactions:
● While significant systemic interactions are rare due to minimal systemic absorption, caution is advised when co-administering other prostaglandin analogs.
