Cyclophosphamide, either alone or combined with other medications, is utilized to manage various conditions. These include Hodgkin’s lymphoma (Hodgkin’s disease) and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (types of cancers that begin in white blood cells fighting infection); cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL, immune system cancers showing as skin rashes); multiple myeloma (a type of bone marrow cancer); and certain types of leukemia (cancer of white blood cells), encompassing chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Additionally, it treats retinoblastoma (eye cancer), neuroblastoma (nerve cell cancer mainly in children), ovarian cancer (female reproductive organ cancer), and breast cancer. Cyclophosphamide is also employed for nephrotic syndrome (kidney damage disease) in children whose condition has not improved, worsened, or recurred after using other medications, or for children who experienced intolerable side effects with prior medications. This medication falls within the alkylating agents class and exerts its effects by impeding the growth of cancer cells when used for cancer treatment. In the context of nephrotic syndrome, it suppresses the immune system.
