Description

Entresto combines the medications valsartan and sacubitril. It is typically prescribed for individuals with heart failure to reduce the risk of death and hospitalization due to cardiac events like heart attacks and strokes. It should be used in conjunction with other heart medications as directed by your healthcare provider.

Sacubitril, one of the active ingredients, acts as a neprilysin inhibitor. Neprilysin is responsible for breaking down specific protein molecules in the kidneys, which play a protective role for both the kidneys and the heart.

The second active ingredient, valsartan, belongs to the class of angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) and is commonly used to manage high blood pressure when prescribed as a standalone medication. When combined with sacubitril, valsartan helps alleviate stress on the heart in cases of heart failure.
