Yaz, a combination oral contraceptive, consists of drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol. It is primarily used to prevent pregnancy and manage conditions related to hormonal imbalances, such as acne and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Drospirenone, a progestin, works together with ethinyl estradiol, an estrogen, to prevent ovulation and cause changes in the cervical and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.
