Description
Donepezil, commonly sold under the brand name Aricept, is a medication primarily used to treat cognitive symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, such as confusion and memory loss. It belongs to a class of drugs known as cholinesterase inhibitors, which work by increasing the levels of acetylcholine, a chemical messenger involved in memory and learning, in the brain. Donepezil is used to improve mental function in people with Alzheimer’s by slowing the breakdown of acetylcholine.
