Description

Glumetza is a brand name for an extended-release formulation of metformin hydrochloride, primarily used to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Precautions: ● Glumetza carries a boxed warning for lactic acidosis, a rare but serious complication. ● Kidney function should be assessed before starting and periodically thereafter. ● Use with caution in patients with risk factors for lactic acidosis, such as renal impairment or conditions leading to hypoxemia. ● Consumption of alcohol should be limited due to an increased risk of lactic acidosis.
Side Effects	● Gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, indigestion, abdominal discomfort, and anorexia. ● Vitamin B12 absorption may decrease over time, potentially leading to deficiencies. More serious but less common side effects requiring medical attention: ● Lactic acidosis, presenting as weakness, increasing sleepiness, slow heart rate, cold sensation, muscle pain, shortness of breath, stomach pain, feeling light-headed, and fainting. ● Hypoglycemia when used in combination with other antidiabetic medications.
Storage	● Store Glumetza at room temperature between 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F); excursions permitted to 15°C to 30°C (59°F to 86°F). ● Protect from moisture and light by keeping it in the original container with the lid tightly closed. ● Do not store it in the bathroom.
