Description

Sorafenib is prescribed for the treatment of advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC), a kidney cancer type, as well as hepatocellular carcinoma (a form of liver cancer) that is not amenable to surgical intervention. It is also used to manage a specific type of thyroid cancer that has metastasized to other areas of the body and is unresponsive to radioactive iodine treatment. Sorafenib belongs to a group of medications known as kinase inhibitors, and its mechanism of action involves inhibiting the abnormal protein responsible for stimulating the multiplication of cancer cells, thus impeding their proliferation and spread.
